Blur frontman Damon Albarn has confirmed the band are working in the studio on new material, but warned fans not to expect an album any time soon following the release of the group’s first new material since 2003 last month when they issued the limited edition 7″ ‘Fool’s Day‘ as part of the UK’s Record Store Day initiative.

Speaking to the NME, Albarn said he and his bandmates are taking a relaxed approach to recording their new material – something they haven’t enjoyed since their early days: “I’m definitely going to do a few more of those 7″ and at some point in the undetermined future there will be a record at the end of it,” he said. “I love the no pressure aspect. Just going in the studio and recording it in a day is something we haven’t done since the B-sides in the early days.”

However, Albarn said the busy schedules of the four band members, including his own project Gorillaz, mean the record will take some time to finish: “We can’t do Blur all the time. So I don’t want anyone to think there’s an album coming soon, it’s not possible, but we’ve got songs!”

The new album would be Blur’s first since 2003’s ‘Think Tank‘, and the first with Graham Coxon on board since 1999.
