The Who’s Roger Daltrey Still Interested In Keith Moon Biopic

3453915Roger Daltrey has insisted he still has plans to make a biography of the late Who drummer Keith Moon, but says the script has to be right before he gives the go ahead.

Speaking in today’s Daily Star newspaper, Roger said he will need a writer who matches his vision for the film if the project is to be restarted: “The Keith Moon film depends on someone sitting me down long enough with a writer to get it right,” he said. “If I sat down for six weeks with a good writer, I could get it done. I’ve got it all in pictures in my head. I know what the film should look like, the way the narrative should be structured.  But every time I’ve left a writer to it before now, they say: ‘OK, I see what you mean, I know what you want’ – and then they go off on a complete tangent from what we’ve agreed because they don’t know what it feels like to be in a band.”

The film appeared to be underway a few years ago when Wayne’s World director Penelope Spheeris agreed a deal to make the film, and brought Mike Myers on board to star as Keith. However, Daltrey rejected that script, and has now told the paper it needs to be written in conjunction with someone who experienced the famous excesses indulged in by the band: “That is one of the big problems with Keith’s life – it needs to be written by someone who was there. It needs more time than I’ve been able to give it. But I’d love to have the time to do it justice with the right writer.”

The Who are set to play the final gig at the Daltrey-organised Teenage Cancer Trust on Tuesday.
