Former Libertines songwriter Carl Barat has revealed work on his debut solo album is complete.

Speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat, Barat said the new tracks have a different sound from those featured in his previous bands The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things. “It’s a bit different,” he said. “It’s a bit older – like myself really. It’s kind of naked, kind of stripped down. It’s more piano-based. It’s definitely different from The Libertines. It’s different from anything I’ve done before. It’s more me.”

After the break up of Dirty Pretty Things at the end of 2008, Barat announced his intention to go solo last September. He has also hinted that the constant rumours of a Libertines reunion could finally become reality in 2011, and recently told the Evening Standard: “”It’s not definite. I can say 2011, but it’s hard to plan The Libertines until next Tuesday. But 2011 is where there’s room for that to happen. So if everything’s all right, then, yeah, it would be glorious to get on the old jacket and venture forth, into the known.”

Barat’s debut solo record is expected to be released later this year.
