The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning has announced the band intend to go on a ‘hiatus’ when their tour comes to an end in February.

Speaking to Australian paper The Age, Keuning said: “I’m not sure if people are aware of it but these are probably our last shows for a while. We haven’t had a break in quite a while. It’s just been touring and making records and on and on and on. It’s been like six years just kind of connected together. It’s like people just expect us to do that non-stop till we die, but we just want a little bit of time off, just to be myself and do what I want to do for a little bit.”

The news comes shortly after the band’s record label was recently forced to issue a denial of rumours that frontman Brandon Flowers is set to quit the group to pursue a solo career, saying: “Brandon is not leaving The Killers to ‘go solo’. The band are on tour in South Africa at the moment, still busy promoting their third album ‘Day & Age’, and will be touring into spring 2010.” When asked by The Age if the break was a permanent one, Keuning replied: “not as far as I know.”

The Killers will wrap up a short tour of Australia in Melbourne on February 21st.
