Review: Hot Chip – ‘One Life Stand’

hot-chip

Hot Chip’s envious knack of penning catchy dance-floor fillers shows no signs of waning in 2010, especially if their astutely titled new single One Life Stand is anything to go by. Sounding like the offspring of Ready For the Floor meeting Over And Over, yet more subtle than the latter, this is another slice of classic Hot Chip that bulldozes any preconceptions that they’d spend the rest of their career topping one-hit wonder polls for the brilliant Over And Over.

It may not be as immediate as previous singles, and not anything particularly bold in terms of musical direction, but after a few listens it serves its purpose and sits confidently alongside their best work. A fuzzy, thumping beat, sing-along chorus and a hook that the Chemical Brothers would slap their own mother’s for these days, will guarantee it instant success in both the charts and DJ’s club-night set-lists, but more importantly, the most-played list on your iPod this year.
