The Week Ahead In UK Music: Releases, Gigs & Broadcasts

Live4ever’s highlights this week include a new album from a Manchester legend, a farewell gig from a popular Sheffield band, and the return of a long-running music-based TV series.

Albums

Ian Brown‘s new album ‘My Way‘ is released this week. The album has already spawned hit single ‘Stellify‘, and has been hailed as his strongest solo album to date. Elsewhere, US band Alice In Chains release their first album since 1995 – ‘Black Gives Way To Blue‘ is out on the 29th.

Singles

Mumford & Sons release ‘Little Lion Man’, a taster from their upcoming debut album ‘Sigh No More’. French duo Air release ‘Sing Sang Sung‘, which features on their new sixth studio album ‘Love 2‘, which is out next month.

Gigs

Bloc Party begin their UK tour at the Blackpool Empress Ballroom on Friday, which moves to Scotland at the weekend for dates in Edinburgh on Saturday and Inverness on Sunday. Sheffield band Little Man Tate play two farewell gigs at the Sheffield O2 Academy on Friday and Saturday after announcing their decision to split in July. Elsewhere, The Cribs continue their UK jaunt with dates in Hull, Newcastle, Manchester, Lincoln and Leeds this week.

Television

The Cribs and The xx are amongst the acts appearing on Later…with Jools Holland this week (Tue, 10pm), the show is as ever followed by an extended edition on Friday from 11.35pm. There’s a video exclusive for Stereophonics‘ new single, ‘Innocent‘ on Channel 4 (Thu, 12.05am) and The Enemy‘s frontman Tom Clarke is amongst the panellists joining guest host James Corden on a new run of Never Mind The Buzzcocks later that day at 9pm. BBC4 dedicates an evening to Madness on Friday from 9pm, which includes their recent appearence at Glastonbury and a selection of documentaries on the 80s legends.

Radio

Blur‘s widely acclaimed July 3rd Hyde Park gig is played out on Absolute Radio on Tuesday (8pm). Editors are live in session with Zane Lowe on Radio 1 (Wed, 7pm), while London newcomers Mumford & Sons join Jo Wiley live on the same station from 1pm on Saturday. Gideon Coe has live gigs from Manchester legends New Order and Happy Mondays on his show from 9pm on Thursday on BBC 6Music and Yoko Ono presents a special ‘6Mix’ on Saturday from 9pm where she will discuss her life and new album.
