Acclaimed film director Robert Zemeckis is reportedly planning to make a new 3D version of The Beatles‘ 1968 animated film ‘Yellow Submarine‘.
The film will be made for Disney, who are said to be looking to secure the rights to the film’s legendary soundtrack which includes ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band,’ ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,’ ‘With a Little Help From my Friends’, ‘All You Need Is Love’, ‘All Together Now’, ‘Baby You’re a Rich Man’ and ‘When I’m 64.’ The deal being struck by Disney would include plans for a new Broadway musical as well as the new film.

The original story was written by Lee Minoff, and the screenplay was written by four collaborators including Erich Segal. It was directed by George Dunning. The Beatles’ characters are voiced by actors, with the Beatles themselves only appearing in the final scene of the movie. Upon it’s release in June 1968, the film was praised by fans and critics alike, and was nominated for the 1970 Grammy Award for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special.
The company hopes to have the movie in place in time for the 2012 London Olympics.
Gaah! BAD NEWS! this totally sucks. i’m only 15, and know how much this will be just a gimmick. HELLO! we already have one! no remakes are needed. plain and simple. disney needs to go back to fairy tales and leave band gods alone…
Echoing the first post – AAAARGHHHH! When will Hollywood learn that remaking classic movies is usually a financial and artistic disaster, and is a frank admission that those who think it a good idea to do so are devoid of any genuine imagination.
Leave well enough alone!!!!
The original (correct me if im wrong) was shot in 1968….1968 was a lot different then it is today and as it will be in 2012; for people who do not embrace this fact, the new one will just give the Beatles a bad name in my opinion. So go ahead, make the movie(though i do agree with the past two posts, what the F#$! are they thinking) just remind the public that this movie comes strait out of the 60’s
