Here are our weekly picks of notable releases this week, as well as gigs and TV/radio spots worth catching over the next seven days.

Albums




Bit of a quiet week on the albums front, but The Stone Roses debut gets a makeover to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, several versions are released this week including a ‘Collector’s Edition’ featuring CDs, vinyls, DVDs and John Squire artwork. Neil Young also releases a clutch of remastered records from his long career, incuding ‘Harvest‘and ‘After The Goldrush‘.

Singles

Bloc Party release their non-album single ‘One More Chance’ which, given their apparent reluctance to return to the studio anytime soon, could be their last release for some time. Elsewhere, The Black Box Revelation release new single ‘I Think I Like You‘ via download.

Gigs

U2 play two huge gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium on Friday and Saturday, Manchester legends The Charlatans begin a short Uk jaunt at The Picturedome in Holmfirth on Thursday and The Streets are in Edinburgh at The Picture House on Saturday.

Television

MTV Two and Sky Arts are the places to be again this week. The White Stripes‘ gig in Manuaus, Brazil from 2005 gets an airing on MTV Two on Thursday (9pm). Sky Arts have performances from the likes of The Killers and Neil Young from this year’s Hard Rock Calling event from 9pm on Friday. The same channel also has a 1999 concert from legends The Who at 11.55pm on Saturday. Doves showcase tracks from new album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ in session on MTV Two from 11pm on Saturday.

Radio

The Lightning Seeds are in session with Dermot O’Leary on BBC Radio 2 (Saturday), while the same station celebrates the 40th anniversary of Woodstock – also on Saturday at 10pm. On BBC 6 Music, their ‘Play It Again’ show celebrates The Stone Roses anniversary with a two-part documentary on Tuesday and Wednesday.
