Editors have announced details for their new album. ‘In This Light and On This Evening’ wiil be the follow-up to 2007’s ‘An End Has a Start’, and will be released in September. Mark ‘Flood’ Ellis, who has worked with bands such as U2, The Killers and The Smashing Pumpkins, has produced the album.

Frontman Tom Smith has revealed the city of London has played a big role in the inspiration for the new record. He said “I actually think it’s in every song,” he said. “In the right time and place, in the right light and on the right evening, something you have seen 1,000 times before can still take your breath away.”

Speaking to 6Music last year Smith said the band were exploring a ‘ferocious’ new direction: “I know there’s an element to our band, a kind of power and ferociousness that we have when we play live that we haven’t quite captured yet on record. Maybe things have been a little bit too smooth.”

Their 2005 debut ‘The Back Room‘ spawned hits such as ‘Munich‘ and ‘All Sparks‘ and went on to recieve a Mercury Music nomination.

Editors are to embark on a UK tour from October, before which they will be the first band to play the new O2 Academy in Birmingham.
