Arcade Fire‘s much-lauded third studio album ‘The Suburbs‘ heads the list of nominees for this year’s Canadian Polaris Music Prize – their homeland’s equivalent of the Mercury Music Prize.
Folksters Timber Timbre and Toronto’s The Weeknd also feature on the shortlist, though ‘The Suburbs’, which has won countless awards and accolades including Grammys and Brits since its release last year, dominates the 2011 rundown.
Blues duo The Black Keys remain at no.3 on this week’s Billboard Alternative Album Chart with their sixth studio album ‘Brothers’, while Canadian indie band Wolf Parade debut at #6. British folk-rockers Mumford & Sons climb into the top 10 to chart at #9 on the chart which is topped this week by the latest Twilight Saga soundtrack. Outside the top 10, Gorillaz ‘Plastic Beach’ drops to no.11 and The Gaslight Anthem are at #14 with ‘American Slang’.
In the Billboard Alternative Singles chart, reggae-rockers The Dirty Heads are on top with their track ‘Lay Me Down’, and Thirty Seconds To Mars, Cage The Elephant and Rise Against are all non-movers.
