Amid growing media scrutiny surrounding their future following the cancellation of a US tour this week, UK three-piece White Lies have come out in defence of Kings Of Leon, and claimed the rumours of inter-band tensions are being exaggerated by the press.
In addition, White Lies also addressed Kings Of Leon’s reputation for aloof behaviour with other bands, something they denied experiencing during their time on the road with the Followill clan.
London’s White Lies will be kicking off a headlining spring run of stateside dates this week with a performance on Late Show with David Letterman tonight, May 16th, at 11:35pm Eastern/Pacific time. The 7 city tour in support of their critically acclaimed sophomore release, Ritual, will see the band giving their fans on this side of the ocean a taste of their much buzzed about live show. Starting tomorrow, May 17th, in Boston at Paradise Rock Club, White Lies, with guests Asobi Seksu and Sun Airway, will hit major markets across the East Coast and Southern States including a stop at New York’s Terminal 5 (School of Seven Bells to support on this date only) before wrapping in Mexico City on May 26 and heading back to Europe to start a tour with Kings of Leon. The band will head back to the US later this summer for a main stage performance at Lollapalooza.

Bruno Mars scores a UK chart double this week as his new album ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans’ joins the track ‘Grenade’ at the summit of the charts. Elsewhere, London trio White Lies’ second album ‘Ritual’ debuts at number 3, while Plan B’s ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks’ continues to hold strong in the top ten (#4). Outside the top ten, Mumford & Sons’ ‘Sigh No More’ drops to #11, while Kings Of Leon also suffer a dip, with ‘Come Around Sundown’ just holding on in the top 20 at no.18.
It seemed that the synthesized indie rock of the mid 00’s had been labeled another short-lived fad. So it is surprising that an electro-fuelled outfit like White Lies, who only entered the mainstream in 2009, have already shifted a million copies of their debut, ‘To Lose My Life…‘. Their second offering, ‘Ritual‘ (released on January 17th) will likely appeal to the majority who fell for their first, but don’t expect any nice surprises.
Reformed Nineties band Suede have confirmed their first live date of 2011, continuing the successful reunion which was initiated last year.
