The Courteeners debuted a host of new tracks at their homecoming Manchester Apollo gig last night (December 8th).
The band mixed material set to appear on their forthcoming new album with a selection of firm fan favourites taken from previous records ‘St. Jude‘ and ‘Falcon‘.
Manchester band The Courteeners have announced two hometown shows to take place this coming December.
The band, who released second album ‘Falcon‘ last year, will play gigs on the 8th and 9th of December at the Manchester Apollo, writing on Facebook that they have chosen ‘the more intimate surroundings of the Apollo’ this time round after an impressive date at the city’s MEN Arena last December.
The Courteeners frontman Liam Fray has told digital station XFM the Manchester band’s new material is ‘bigger, heavier and better’ than previous efforts, but has warned fans not to expect a glimpse of the new tracks for a while yet.

Liam Fray, frontman of Manchester’s The Courteeners, is to play a special acoustic set at Salford Lads Club. The gig has been organised by UK digital radio station XFM, and will take place on August 18th.
Rock heavyweights Muse are set to bring the curtain down on the first day of Scotland’s T In The Park festival tonight, with various acts already talking up what is always one of the highlights of the UK festival season.
As the sun rose on the first day of the 2009 Leeds Festival, expectations were high on site with an impressive afternoon/evening Main Stage line-up. However, by the end of the night, it was hard to shake off an over-riding feeling of disappointment.
Manchester band The Courteeners took to the stage in the late afternoon to a very respectable crowd on the Main Stage. The band have forged a devoted following in the north of England and everything looked to be in place for a strong set. “This festival starts now!” declared the ever modest frontman Liam Fray, but the crowd weren’t ready to follow his lead. Ultimately the performance fell flat, songs from 2008 debut ‘St. Jude‘ now seem overly familiar, and the band and fans seem to have grown tired of the songs which were delivered with real power and passion 18 months ago. Any casual fans or critics were unlikely to be bowled over by what was a 5/10 performance at best.
