Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has apparently been discussing a recurring dream he has which takes him back to the early days with his former band.
Graffiti scribbled by Johnny Rotten on the walls of the Sex Pistols‘ former Denmark Street flat have been declared more archaeologically important than The Beatles by a leading member of the archaeological community.
The drawings, which are primarily Rotten’s caricatures of his bandmates and manager Malcolm McLaren, are of such significance that they could warrant a blue plaque at some point in the future, according to Dr John Schofield of the Department of Archaeology at the University of York.
A rare, limited edition version of The Beatles‘ sleeve for ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band‘ has been named the most valuable record cover in the world by Record Collector magazine.
Michael Winterbottom, the man behind the excellent 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, based on the rise and fall of Factory Records, is set to direct the forthcoming Beatles biopic The Longest Cocktail Party, according to his long-term production partner Andrew Eaton.
The film will be based on the Richard DiLello book, which tells the hedonistic tale of The Beatles’ flawed Apple venture between 1967 and 1970. The project was initiated, and is being produced, by Liam Gallagher and his company In1Productions.
Speaking to Indiewire, Eaton told of the inspiration he is garnering from Gallagher, whose inexperience in the film world is bringing a fresh outlook to the ongoing plans.
“We’re developing for Michael to direct, it’s one of my passion projects,” he said. “Liam’s great to work with, because he wants everything to happen tomorrow. Because he’s not from the film business, he’s basically going, ‘Why can’t we do it right now?’ It’s very inspiring.”
Liam Gallagher has previously spoken of his desire to secure Hollywood star Johnny Depp for the leading role, though no news of a possible cast has yet been hinted at.
Some of the earliest known Beatles recordings, which the band laid down with singer Tony Bennett while on residency in Hamburg, Germany in the early Sixties, are to be officially released on CD for the first time.
‘The Beatles With Tony Sheridan: First Recordings‘ , will be available on a deluxe double CD format, and is due to hit the shelves in the US on November 8th, though a UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
The Beatles are back in the UK Top 10 this week thanks to their re-mastered ’1′ album – as good a time as any for a classic
Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has denied he is set for an onstage reunion with Sir Paul McCartney at the 2012 London Olympics, saying he will be out of the country next summer.
“I’ll be touring America so I won’t be doing it,” Ringo told Sky News at last night’s Mojo Awards where he picked up the Icon Award.
U2 covered The Beatles and fellow headliners Coldplay during a career-spanning headline set tonight (June 24th), to close the first day of Glastonbury 2011.
Debate had been raging throughout the day as to what kind of set U2 would perform, with some suggesting the band could shun a crowd pleasing, hit packed night in favour of a more obscure set.
Sir Paul McCartney has refuted long-standing claims that his actions were a primary reason for The Beatles‘ split in 1970, and revealed John Lennon was the main instigator behind ending their unrivalled 10-year plus career.
It’s hard to imagine a world without ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band‘. The physicist C.P. Snow once said if Einstein hadn’t locked himself away, indulged in a spot of chin-stroking and eventually conceived the General Theory of Relativity, which revolutionised the way we think about science, we’d still be waiting for that idea to occur to someone else now. In the same vein, you have to wonder that if The Beatles hadn’t locked themselves away in Abbey Road during those few fruitful months over 40 years ago, following their self-imposed exile from live duties in 1966, whether we might equally still be waiting for a band to revolutionise the face of popular music today.
