Fresh from completing the tribute to the Buzzocks JD Set on Channel 4 together with Tim Burgess, The Answering Machine are off to the mixing studio next week to start mixing their second album.
The album, recorded in Manchester by the band themselves and produced by vocalist Martin Colclough, suggests a mature progression from their first album.
The following are Martin’s thoughts on what the band were trying to achieve with their sophomore album:
Live4ever was excited to spend some quality time with the member’s of Manchester’s finest “The Answering Machine” during their recent lengthy stay in the big Apple. The Brit Pop foursome was here for the 2009 CMJ music marathon and a 3 week residency at one of Brooklyn’s popular indie music venues Coco66. I was already hooked before seeing them live thanks to NME radio’s DJ Chris Martin who had added the band’s catchy single ‘Cliffer‘ to his always entertaining play list. The station, luckily available online, is a great music source of all things British over here in the States. To see “The Answering Machine” on the lengthy list of over 1000 participating bands at CMJ this year was a treat I was looking forward to and a welcome surprise.

UK indie rockers The Answering Machine will be one of the many highlights at the 2009 CMJ music marathon in New York City. This year will mark the 29th edition where over 120,000 fans, artists, filmmakers, and industry pros from around the globe are expected to visit the Big Apple for all the Marathon madness.
The Answering Machine have been hailed as Manchester’s ‘most likely to..’ since their fledgling introduction back in Autumn 2006. Back then the band were a fresh-faced trio, armed solely with a canon of jittery, indie-pop gold and a drum machine. Forming out of all-night parties and gigs on a Manchester campus, Martin, Pat and Gemma bunkered-up in a cold and desolate bedroom to grapple with melodic, poetic and simply joyous pop music.
