Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has praised the impact of Nirvana after the band performed in Northern Ireland with The Breeders back in the early Nineties.
Snow Patrol have been kept off the top spot of the UK Album Chart this week by crooner Michael Buble‘s festive record ‘Christmas‘.
Snow Patrol had been top when the midweek charts were announced last Wednesday, but subsequent sales have meant ‘Fallen Empires‘ has had to settle for a number three debut.
No-one in their right mind expects Snow Patrol to make a generation-defining album, but we oft-expect them to make a disappointing record either.
The alternative Irish outfit have been suspended rather awkwardly in the sky since the one-two punch of 2004’s ‘Final Straw‘ and 2006’s multi-format smash ‘Eyes Open‘. For instance, although the group’s last release, ‘A Hundred Millions Suns‘, should have incited the wellspring of anticipation that usually awaits a follow-up of a multi-platinum selling record, it was greeted rather expectantly and nostalgically – as if the band had been around for countless eons beforehand.
Snow Patrol are on course for the number one album in the UK according to midweek figures released today.
‘Fallen Empires‘ is currently holding off the challenge from former TV talent show stars JLS, while last week’s chart topper, Susan Boyle, is down to #7.
Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has been describing the anguish he went through when suffering with writer’s block following the release of the band’s 2008 album ‘A Hundred Million Suns‘.
Lightbody was speaking on BBC Breakfast this morning (November 15th), when he admitted he ‘couldn’t write a single word’ such was the severity of his songwriting blackout.
Snow Patrol will tour the UK next year in support of their new album ‘Fallen Empires‘, which will be released next week.
The tour begins at the Glasgow SECC on January 27th, moving on to Aberdeen on the 30th before a first English date at the Liverpool Echo Arena a day later.
Snow Patrol have revealed the bulk of their seventh studio album is already written – over a month before the release of their sixth.
Songwriter-for-hire Guy Chambers has compared recent UK X Factor winner Matt Cardle to successful commercial British bands Coldplay, Travis and Snow Patrol.
Chambers, best known for his writing credits with Robbie Williams, has worked on two songs set to feature on Cardle’s debut album, and believes the latest product off the Simon Cowell production line can match the guitar-led trio’s achievements.
