Here are our weekly picks of notable releases this week, as well as gigs and TV/radio spots worth catching over the next seven days.

Albums

Bit of a quiet week on the albums front, but The Stone Roses debut gets a makeover to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, several versions are released this week including a ‘Collector’s Edition’ featuring CDs, vinyls, DVDs and John Squire artwork. Neil Young also releases a clutch of remastered records from his long career, incuding ‘Harvest‘and ‘After The Goldrush‘.

Singles

Bloc Party release their non-album single ‘One More Chance’ which, given their apparent reluctance to return to the studio anytime soon, could be their last release for some time. Elsewhere, The Black Box Revelation release new single ‘I Think I Like You‘ via download.

Gigs

U2 play two huge gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium on Friday and Saturday, Manchester legends The Charlatans begin a short Uk jaunt at The Picturedome in Holmfirth on Thursday and The Streets are in Edinburgh at The Picture House on Saturday.

After a year of relative quiet from Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro following last summers stopgap single ‘Mountains’, Biffy’s new single ‘That Golden Rule’ spearheads their hugely anticipated fifth album, ‘Only Revolutions’, and it doesn’t disappoint.

Albums

The Twang’s second album, ‘Jewellery Quarter’ is released this week and Modest Mouse release EP ‘No One’s First and You’re Next‘. R.E.M release a two-disc, deluxe edition of 1984 album ‘Reckoning’.

Singles

The Twilight Sad release new single ‘I Became a Prostitute‘, former Mercury Music Prize winners Antony & The Johnsons release a cover of ‘Crazy In Love’ and The Cribs’ new track ‘Cheat On Me‘ is out on download.

Gigs

Legends The Stranglers play a gig at HMV Picture House in Edinburgh on Friday, and The Streets and Super Furry Animals are amongst the bands playing the Relentless Boardmasters Festival in Newquay from Thursday. Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne plays Southampton Guildhall on Tuesday.

Television

The Killers and Elbow’s performances at the recent Oxegen Festival are shown on VH1 and MTV2 throughout the week. The story of The Rolling Stones free concert in London in 1969 – ‘The Stones In The Park’ – is on Sky Arts on Thursday.

Radio

Absolute Radio play Radiohead’s classic album ‘The Bends‘ in full on Monday evening. The Rumble Strips are on XFM’s ‘An Evening With…’ sessions on Tuesday.
