REM‘s early Nineties single ‘Everybody Hurts‘ has been voted ‘the most depressing song of all time’ by a new survey.
Ex-REM frontman Michael Stipe has claimed his former band never released a classic album in their three-decade long career.
Various LPs from the influential group, such as 1983 debut ‘Murmur‘, 1987′s ‘Document‘ and 1991′s ‘Out Of Time‘ are considered by many to be modern greats, while 1992 release ‘Automatic For The People‘ was one of the most commercially successful records of the Nineties.
Former REM guitarist Peter Buck has told The Guardian newspaper it makes him ‘sad’ to think he is likely to never perform the band’s songs again.
REM announced their split earlier this year, and Buck told the UK paper he cannot at the present time envisage any situation which would get himself, Michael Stipe and Mike Mills back onstage together again.
Former REM bassist Mike Mills has said he doesn’t expect his ex-band’s frontman Michael Stipe to launch a solo career.
It was last month when REM told the world of their decision to split, with Stipe commenting at the time that: “A wise man once said–’the skill in attending a party is knowing when it’s time to leave. We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we’re going to walk away from it.”
R.E.M have announced the tracklisting of their forthcoming new album ‘Collapse Into Now‘ via a newsletter sent out to the band’s mailing list subscribers, reports slicingupeyeballs.com.
R.E.M have enlisted the talents of Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith on their forthcoming new album, according to band member Mike Mills.
New albums released in the UK should be sold for as little as £1 in a bid to help dissuade fans from downloading music for free online, according to a former leading music industry figure.
Ozzy Osbourne has recorded a cover version of John Lennon’s track ‘How?‘ in support of the respected charity Amnesty International, as celebrations continue during the week leading up to what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday.
R.E.M’s 1992 single ‘Everybody Hurts‘, taken from their classic album ‘Automatic For The People‘, is the track most likely to cause a few tears amongst male music lovers, according to a new survey.
