Keane’s first EP, the 8-track ‘Night Train‘, is this week’s UK no.1 album, beating off competition from Lady Gaga’s compilation ‘The Remix‘ which enters at #3. The National’s excellent fifth studio record ‘High Violet‘ enters at a very respectable #5, and Foals second LP ‘Total Life Forever‘ debuts at no.8. Outside the top 10, Paolo Nutini’s long stay in the top 10 finally comes to an end, with his second album ‘Sunny Side Up‘ dropping nine places to #18 and Jack White’s rock supergroup The Dead Weather enter at #32 with ‘Sea Of Cowards‘.
Rap collective Roll Deep hold on to the top spot in the Singles Chart for a third week.
Three new entries in the top 10 of the Album Chart this week, with Paul Weller’s well received new studio album pipped to the number one spot by AC/DC’s new Iron Man soundtrack, which contains classic tracks from the veteran band’s long career. The other new entry comes from singer-songwriter Kate Nash, who’s second record ‘My Best Friend Is You‘ debuts at #8. Elsewhere, Paolo Nutini, Lady Gaga and Florence & The Machine all retain their long-standing hold on the top 10. Manchester legends James‘ new mini-album ‘The Night Before‘ lands at #20. In the Singles Chart, former X Factor contestant Diana Vickers is this week’s number one.
Kings Of Leon’s smash-hit fourth album ‘Only By The Night‘ has been confirmed as the UK’s highest selling digital record, after shifting over 250,000 units since it’s release in 2008.
Lady Gaga has cemented her status as one of the world’s leading popstars this week after topping both the UK Album and Singles chart. Her LP ‘The Fame‘ has climbed four places to the top spot, while her single ‘Telephone‘ is also this week’s no.1. Elsewhere, hit TV show Glee’s Volume 2 soundtrack enters at #2, to go with their Volume 1 edition which is still going strong at #6.
To fit the description of a music business mogul, no one could be more suited than Tom Silverman. One of the prominent and seminal self-made figures in the industry, passing enthusiasts will undoubtedly be familiar with his name and, of course, his company that became one of the most successful of all independent labels, Tommy Boy Records.
