Kings Of Leon have now cancelled all the remaining dates of their troubled US tour amid rumours of growing tensions within the band.
Last weekend, the four-piece halted a gig in Dallas mid-set after frontman Caleb Followill left the stage blaming health issues, and then postponed a second Texas show in Houston a day later, which prompted bass player Jared Followill to admit to ‘problems’ within the group when writing on Twitter.
Kings Of Leon bassist Jared Followill has hinted at internal friction within the band after the cancellation of shows in Dallas and Houston this weekend.
Frontman Caleb Followill left the stage mid-set in Dallas last Friday (July 29th), blaming problems with his voice. “I’m gonna vomit, I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out here and I’m gonna play three more songs,” Caleb told the crowd before leaving stage. As it transpired, he didn’t return to the stage to complete the performance.
Kings Of Leon were forced to cancel a gig in Dallas last night (July 29th), after frontman Caleb Followill left the stage mid-set due to apparent problems with his voice.
Not long into the show, Followill expressed his discomfort to the crowd, saying: “I’m trying my best to sing but I haven’t got a voice, I’ve got nothing here.”
Veering away from the middle of the road for four glorious minutes, Kings Of Leon‘s latest single ‘Back Down South‘ offers a tantalising glimpse of what might have been had, sometime around the end of 2007, the Followill clan set their sights on maturing their sound, rather than their bank balances.
The journey back to the country, complimented by violins, twangy guitar licks and a handclap conclusion, instantly brings to mind that modern classic of a second album ‘Aha Shake Heartbrake‘; it should be impossible for anyone familiar with that record not to spend some time with the track and have a rodeo and glitterball being recalled with a smile. For one all too fleeting moment, the Radio 1 playlist obsession which has dragged Kings Of Leon into Nickleback and Bon Jovi territory these past few years is almost forgotten.
Kings Of Leon frontman Caleb Followill has suggested the four bandmates could pursue solo projects in the future, possibly using work they have previously put to one side whilst recording past albums.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Followill said the unreleased work could be worked on individually, or placed in the hands of a new artist.
Kings Of Leon have said their experiences in the band, documented in the new film Talihina Sky, has directly mirrored the story of the seminal fictional group Spinal Tap.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, bass player Jared and guitarist Matthew Followill praised the film’s actors’ ‘perfect’ performances, which they say is ‘just like’ the early years of Kings Of Leon.

Kings Of Leon‘s new film Talihina Sky, which charts the history and rise to success of the band using archive footage, will receive its UK premiere later this month.
Kings Of Leon and Florence & The Machine both claimed places on a list of the UK’s ten most played songs of 2010, with pop superstar Lady Gaga coming out on top with the hit single ‘Bad Romance‘.
