Review: FIGO – ‘Put It All On Black’

The Portuguese footballer that inspired the name of the band was the type of unique figure who helped to capture the imagination and define an era in his chosen field. One in a million. So just what exactly have these New York pretenders done to merit the honour of such a legendary namesake?

Prior to the release of this debut album, there was no discernible answer to this question. FIGO have been around for some five and a half years, but due largely to their relentless touring ethic, only flashes of their music have actually been heard. Now, however, things are different.

Review: Live4ever’s Official CMJ Showcase

Posted on 01 Nov 2011 at 6:32am

On October 18th, Live4ever’s Official 2011 CMJ Showcase played host to a raucous celebration of rock n roll at the world-famous Brooklyn Bowl in New York.

From the US, Fifth Nation, 1,2,3, Le Blorr and The Dirty Grand displayed emphatically to the packed crowd what the very best of new American rock sounds like, while hometown boys FIGO‘s (pics one & two) electro-tinged rock was launched by a UK and Irish one-two of Pint Shot Riot and The Minutes.

Bill-toppers DAMNDOGS and The Duke Spirit had the unenviable task of closing the night in style, but the pair rose to both the occasion and challenge with ease as DJ sets from LA Riots, VHS Or Beta and Boyhollow guided the event through the early hours.

Relive the night by taking a look through our exclusive photo gallery, and we’ll see you at SXSW!

The Duke Spirit and DAMNDOGS to Headline Live4ever CMJ 2011 Showcase

Antone’s. Austin, Texas. Tuesday, March 17th, 5.30pm. The Jim Jones Revue are tearing through closer ‘The Princess & The Frog‘, bringing not only their own set to an end, but a day of unashamedly anthemic British rock n roll as well. Previous storming, crowd pleasing sets by Doll & The Kicks, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Mighty Stef, Twin Atlantic, Pint Shot Riot and The Boxer Rebellion had shook the famous old venue to its foundations, and in doing so turned Live4ever’s Two Fingered Salute showcase into one of the undoubted highlights of the 2011 South By Southwest Festival.

And now, after the runaway success of SXSW, the Live4ever roadshow is rolling into New York for the city’s annual CMJ Music Marathon, with a net this time cast further ashore from the white cliffs and craggy highlands of the British coast. Allow us to introduce the Live4ever Media Official CMJ 2011 Showcase, taking place at the Brooklyn Bowl on October 18th.

Interview: Figo – ‘Mixing in the Fast Lane’

Posted on 24 Jun 2010 at 10:53am

The delicate mix of electro and rock is one that only a few acts have had the musical dexterity to handle. Immediate names that spring to mind – Primal Scream, Kasabian, Chemical Brothers – are part of a very short list. But another to be added is New York outfit FIGO, who are delivering the rock/dance crossover with equal style and sonic craftsmanship and making waves with their noise-laden, guitar-driven electro-punk.
