New Northern Irish Bands Sought for ‘Belfast Calling’ Showcase

Twenty acts formed in Northern Ireland within the last two years are needed for the “New Blood 2011Belfast Calling showcase on February 20th.

The event, set to take place across three rooms in Belfast’s Limelight Complex, intends to gather and supply a platform for the next wave of Northern Irish bands after the month-long You Are festival last December proved the health of the current music scene.

Small But Massive…

Read it again. That’s Glasgowbury. Not to be confused with Michael Eavis’ Worthy Farm extravaganza – this is Glasgowbury, and it’s got nothing to do with anything in Scotland. Glasgowbury is Northern Ireland’s premier independent festival which showcases almost universally home-grown talent.

As the brainchild of Irish singer-songwriter Paddy Glasgow (now the name makes sense!) the non-profit event has gone from strength to strength. Starting in his back garden with a hundred people in attendance, this year it shouted “Happy tenth birthday!” from the top of the Sperrin mountains to thousands of music lovers.

Taking to the sacred acres of Donington last weekend was Download 2010, the annual metal mass which this year raised hell in celebration of thirty years since the inaugural Monsters of Rock.

Rather than present you with the squeaky clean side of stage perspective most recollections are offering this review comes straight from the bowels of the pit hoping to share the real festival experience.
