Elbow have unveiled details of a special, one-off Manchester show to take place next month.
The band, who released the Mercury-nominated album ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘ earlier this year, will perform at the Manchester Cathedral on October 27th.
British bands Coldplay, Elbow and Snow Patrol are among the acts confirmed to appear at a special fund-raising gig at the MEN Arena next month as part of the BBC‘s annual Children In Need charity event.
Pop superstar Lady Gaga will also appear at the show, which has been organised by Take That‘s Gary Barlow, who has outlined his delight at this year’s line-up.
Elbow drummer Richard Jupp has compared his band’s fortunes with those of his football team, Manchester City, as the two entities have enjoyed a huge upturn in fortunes over recent years.
Commenting on Elbow’s new found commercial success, which began in earnest with the release of ‘The Seldom Seen Kid‘ in 2008 after a series of brilliantly crafted albums which failed to make a significant impact on the charts, Jupp aligned the situation to Manchester City who, after being bought out by the Abu Dhabi United Group, finally won their first major trophy in nearly three decades last May.
Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has declared their recent Glastonbury appearance as ‘probably the best gig of our lives’ ahead of a Benicassim festival show today.
Garvey told digital station XFM the history of the venue, and both the size and mood of the crowd that Saturday evening made for a truly special experience.
Summer’s here and up and down the UK and beyond bands are hauling themselves through rain, mud, occasional sunshine and irritating TV presenters as another festival season gets in full swing. So with 2011 already careering towards July, it seems like a good time to sit back, take stock of the first six months of the year, and sort through the best of what has been hogging the speakers at Live4ever so far. Is rock n roll music currently in a state of stagnation? Hmm, let’s just say, judge for yourself…

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has told the Daily Mirror newspaper the band are already entering the early stages of the follow up to ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘, and are using a different recording technique this time round.
Garvey told the paper drummer Richard Jupp has laid down a few patterns to begin the writing process, which he will now look to build the tracks around.
Elbow have announced a clutch of North American tour dates in support of their new album ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘.
The band will visit major US cities such as Washington, New York and Los Angeles during the eight-date tour, as well as hitting Canada for a show at the Sound Academy in Toronto on September 28th.
