Forestry Commission’s Live Music series of concerts in spectacular woodland locations around the country.
2009 saw the release of their long-awaited 4th album ‘Kingdom of Rust’, which entered the album charts at No 2. The band’s critically acclaimed debut album Lost Souls (2000) was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and was followed up by their subsequent chart-topping albums ‘The Last
Broadcast (2002) and ‘Some Cities’ (2005).

Manchester band Doves have said they do not intend to release a new album until at least 2012, although they will release a best-of album in the interim period.
“We’ve done four albums so next year, around January time, we are putting out a greatest hits collection. I know four albums isn’t masses but we have been around for ages because each album takes so long to write,” explained guitarist Jez Williams. “We will have to start thinking about a fifth album after the greatest hits collection, but in all honesty, I doubt we’ll finish our fifth album until at least two or three years’ time.”
Doves guitarist Jez Williams has cast doubt over the band’s future after saying he has no desire to return to the studio.
Speaking to the The Sun newspaper, Williams said: “We almost split up after the last album. It was such hard work and it wasn’t an easy ride for us, and it can’t be like that again, so we’re going to see what happens. I think if there is another Doves album, and we’re not sure at this moment whether there will be – we won’t be staring at a blank canvas.”
Doves released their fourth album, ‘Kingdom Of Rust’, in April this year. While it was well received by critics, the album has so far struggled to make any real impact in the charts after entering at #2, and was overlooked for the Mercury Music Prize recently after being heavily tipped for a nomination.
Doves first incarnation was as dance act Sub Sub, during which time they released one full album and a number of EP’s between 1994-96. After a fire destroyed their studio in 1996, they re-emerged two years later as the more rock based trio we know today, finding real success with their wonderful second album ‘The Last Broadcast’ in 2002.
The band will play alongside the likes of Editors and The Futurehead’s at Yorkshire’s Bingley Music Live event, on September 5th.
When Doves release an album like Kingdom of Rust, it’s hard to believe that Americans don’t find them worthy of the back-to-back No. 1 debuts on the album charts that the band has experienced in the UK. This album is yet another example of why every American who loves music should be paying attention to Doves, even if the band members aren’t being arrested on drug charges or engaged to supermodels.
On Kingdom of Rust, Doves establish themselves as masterful creators of dignified pop anthems, and remind aspiring bands that taking the longer road is sometimes the best way. The band, which established itself in 1998, has been going moderately strong ever since.
This record is full of energetic rushes and slopes that tend to ascend to thrilling pinnacles. One such build-up is featured in the album opener, the aptly named “Jetstream,” which begins smoothly enough and soon soars through a techno beat only to morph into a stunning mass of perfectly orchestrated noise.

The Doves stopped by to play to a soldout Terminal 5 in New York City last week . They are on a world tour in support of their new album.
