The Cure have unveiled plans to play three of their studio albums in their entirety when they perform at the Australian festival Vivid Live from the end of this month.

Suede frontman Brett Anderson has dismissed mainstream reality TV shows such as the X Factor as ‘cheesy’, and claimed the genre of shows inspires other acts to make more exciting music.

The track will be released on May 17th, followed by the full soundtrack on June 7th, with the movie going on general release in the US on June 30th.

A new re-issue of The Beatles’ classic 1966 single ‘Paperback Writer‘ is one of 12 new vinyls being released through Parlophone across the UK shortly to celebrate Record Store Day. It will be backed by the b-side ‘Rain‘ as it was originally.

Kasabian and Florence & The Machine have been installed as early favourites for the 2009 Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize after the shortlist was announced this afternoon. Both come in with odds of 5/1, with the next favourites being Bat For Lashes, La Roux and Glasvegas, who all have odds of 6/1. Kasabian’s tag as favourites continues the trend of traditional guitar-led bands winning the prize after a string of solo acts came out on top between 1998 and 2004.
