The White Stripes have announced the release of a greatest hits collection on December 4th.

The first such album to be compiled by Third Man since Jack and Meg parted ways nearly a decade ago (!), it’ll boast 26 songs on its as yet unconfirmed tracklist. Proudly luddite even 20 years ago, it’s no surprise that the age of streaming hasn’t put the band off taking this traditional route.

“We get that the idea of ‘Greatest Hits’ may seem irrelevant in the era of streaming, but we also wholeheartedly believe that great bands deserve ‘Greatest Hits’,” a social media message reads. “The White Stripes are a great band with great fans and it feels like a greatest hits compilation from them is not only appropriate but absolutely necessary.”

As mentioned, the tracklist is unknown at the present time, but we can assume the strung-out moody blues of Ball And Biscuit from 2003’s Elephant will be on there since a live version from Tokyo, Japan has been released to accompany the announcement. Check it out:
