Old Sheffield mates Joe Carnall and Matt Helders have begun 2019 by unveiling the first taste of their collaborative project Good Cop Bad Cop.

The pair go way back to when their respective bands, Milburn and Arctic Monkeys, were breaking out of their native city to make waves on the mid-noughties UK scene, and Helders has now lent his production services to the music which has been composed by Carnall.

While Arctic Monkeys went on to worldwide fame, Milburn quietly retreated following the release of their second album These Are the Facts in 2007, but enjoyed significant success upon their return a decade later and released a brand new LP in 2017; “No matter the track, they keep the writing simple and to the point,” Live4ever’s review reads.

“It makes the songs more effective by giving them a cleaner edge, and also helps them stand apart from each other. In making each track its own separate entity, never simple homages or pastiches, by making them so distinct, Milburn have in turn made them more clearly their own.”

“All together this makes for a fascinating experience. While it’s never clear what’s going to happen next, it’s also always clearly going to be thoroughly Milburn to its core.”
