Liam Gallagher thanked his ‘army of songwriters past and present’ after being named Godlike Genius at last night’s NME Awards.

Despite missing out on Best British Solo Artist to Loyle Carner and Best Live Artist to Kasabian, it was the Oasis frontman’s evening as he joined brother Noel (2012) in being awarded the title as the publication’s editor-in-chief Mike Williams reflected on the fact that, ‘no other person has appeared on the cover of NME more times’, ‘no one has had more words written about them’, and ‘no one has had their picture taken more times by NME’.

Gallagher closed out the ceremony at London’s Brixton Academy with a set of Oasis classics and tracks from last year’s debut solo album As You Were.
