Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries, has died suddenly in London at the age of 46, the BBC is reporting.

The BBC has quoted a statement from her publicist which reads:

“The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time. Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

The Cranberries enjoyed chart success initially in the US with their 1993 single Linger, and soon replicated that breakthrough in the UK. 1994’s Zombie was another big UK hit, while their final studio album Roses was released in 2012.

Irish band Kodaline were one of the first to pay tribute to O’Riordan, writing on Twitter that they were ‘absolutely shocked’ to learn of the news, remembering that her band had given them their ‘first big support when we toured with them around France years ago’.
