Noel Gallagher has taken to Instagram to confirm the addition of Gem Archer to the High Flying Birds for his stint supporting U2.

Archer – a former bandmate and close sidekick of Gallagher in Oasis – has made occasional live appearances with Noel since that band came to an end in 2009, but until 2014 was primarily a member of Beady Eye with the other estranged Gallagher brother Liam.

He takes the place of Tim Smith, who had been on the road with HFB since 2011, while another former Oasis and Beady Eye member, Chris Sharrock, continues in the place of Jeremy Stacey on drums who has instead been on the road with King Crimson.

Noel Gallagher will start his support tour with U2 at Twickenham Stadium in London tomorrow, and is also due to back the band in South America a little later this year.
