Watch Shame discuss spearheading a new London scene at SXSW 2017

Shame

Shame‘s Gold Hole arrived on Live4ever’s radar fairly late in 2016, but its sharp-edged post-punk layout comfortably made it one of our top tracks of last year.

“’You got a gold hole, sugar/It makes me feel like I am rich/It make me feel like you’re my bitch’, sings Charlie Steen on Gold Hole, the latest tune from Brixton punk pushers, Shame,” we said of it. “Make what you will of those words (you could say it’s refreshing to hear some naughty, biting lyrics for a change) if you can get past the smutty bassline and steely drumming.”

“Though if you’d rather just take your top off, jump into the guy next to you and generally not give a rat’s hairy ass until every last dirty drop of aggression has drained out of the guitars and the growls have ceased, we wouldn’t blame you.”

And when we caught up with them at the 2017 SXSW Media Lounge, Shame took us further back to their origins in south London along side Fat White Family, and how they’re now almost accidentally emerging as the leading lights of a burgeoning underground scene in the city.
