Ian Brown: The Stone Roses recording ‘glorious’ new music

NME’s 24-hour surveillance of the Stone Roses‘ rumoured London recording studio appears to have gathered some important intelligence.

In a video posted which can be seen here, the band’s frontman Ian Brown says we should expect new music ‘soon’, and that the material being recorded is sounding ‘glorious’. This after NME had already accosted drummer Reni, who said he ‘couldn’t tell them anything’, and a spokesperson, who declined to comment.

It’s been over 20 years now since the Stone Roses released their second studio album ‘Second Coming‘, an LP weighed down by the passage of time and the massive expectation created by their classic debut album of 1989.

Moving away from the sound of that debut, ‘Second Coming’ instead relied heavily on guitarist John Squire and offered a more riff-heavy affair which many critics compared unfavourably to its predecessor.

New material could be the main story then when the Stone Roses return to the live scene this summer for gigs which include a headline appearance at T In The Park and four nights at the home of Manchester City FC.
