Black Sabbath will call time on their long, influential career during a farewell world tour beginning in January 2016.

“It’s the beginning of the end,” a video message from the band states. “It started nearly five decades ago with a crack of thunder, a distant bell ringing and then that monstrous riff that shook the earth.”

“The heaviest rock sound ever heard. In that moment heavy metal was born, created by a young band from Birmingham, England barely out of their teens.”

Black Sabbath introduced a new world of metal and heavy rock onto an unsuspecting public with their 1970 second studio album ‘Paranoid‘, led by its all-time classic single of the same name.

After a long time apart, the band eventually confirmed their return with Ozzy Osbourne in 2011, and released ‘13‘ to a warm critical and commercial response in June 2013.

Their final tour is set to open in Nebraska, and will end in Australasia the following April. What’s planned in between is yet to be confirmed.
