The National frontman Matt Berninger has teamed up with Menomena‘s Brent Knopf under the name EL VY for the release of an album later this year.

“This record is more autobiographical than anything else I’ve written, but the details aren’t true,” Berninger says. “It’s written in the voices of a few invented characters, composites of different people – myself, my wife, and other people I was thinking about.”

Return To The Moon‘ is planned before the end of 2015 through 4AD, and is being previewed with ‘Return To The Moon (Political Song For Didi Bloome To Sing, With Crescendo)‘.

“I never worried about sending Matt something unfinished,” Knopf adds. “He’s able to imagine where it can go. He can grab the four bars that will become the core of the track and develop them into something amazing.”

The pair will play UK and Ireland dates in December at the London Electric Ballroom (10th), Manchester Gorilla (12th) and Dublin Whelans (13th).
