A new song featuring the poetry of Manchester native Mike Garry and the music of composer Joe Duddell is paying tribute to one of the city’s most enduringly influential musical sons, Anthony Wilson.

Tony Wilson is credited with helping to lay an entire generation’s cultural path through the work of Factory Records and the Hacienda nightclub. He died in August 2007.

And some of those who worked directly with Wilson, or were inspired by him, have now come together on a video for the ‘St Anthony: An Ode To Anthony H Wilson‘ composition which can be seen below. These include Steve Coogan, Iggy Pop, Bernard Sumner, Mike Pickering, Christopher Eccleston, Shaun Ryder, Mark Radcliffe, Vini Reilly and John Cooper Clarke.

It will be out as a download, CD and white vinyl 12” single on August 14th, featuring a remix courtesy of Andrew Weatherall and artwork from Wilson’s former Factory partner Peter Saville.
