U2 perform as street musicians at New York’s Grand Central subway

U2 moonlighted as street performers at New York’s Grand Central subway station earlier this week – apparently for their appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show this Friday (May 8th).

The band caused something of a stir on social media in their less than convincing disguises as they built up some publicity for their return to the US chat show having been forced to cancel late last year due to Bono‘s cycling injury.

It’s an accident the frontman is still recovering from and, when giving an update to the New York Times last week, he said he remains unsure as to whether he’ll be able to play guitar again.

“I really used to think that my head was harder than any surface it came in contact with, and I don’t anymore,” he said. “I didn’t come off a Harley-Davidson. I came off a push bike and smashed myself to bits. There is no glory here.

“It feels like I have somebody else’s hand, I can’t bend these, and this is like rigor mortis. But they say that nerves heal about a millimeter a week, so in about 13 months I should know if it’s coming back.”
