Months of speculation has been put to bed with news that The Who will headline the Sunday night at next month’s Glastonbury Festival.

Returning to the Pyramid Stage for the first time since the rainy deluge of 2007, surviving members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will be immediately supported by Paul Weller as they complete the bill next to Foo Fighters and Kanye West.

Since Glastonbury 2015 sold-out in record time last October, countless headline names have been linked with the event, speculation which only grew more intense as the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay and AC/DC were all ruled out.

A highly unlikely return for Oasis had been described by Ladbrokes as what the fans were ‘desperate’ for, and as early as last week the defunct band was still being linked with a reunion at Worthy Farm.

The aforementioned Coldplay were also considered favourites by some bookmakers despite Emily Eavis previously telling eFestivals, truthfully as we now know, that they would not be back at Glastonbury this time.

The Who have been out on the road since late 2014 celebrating their 50th anniversary – world tour dates which have been described as ‘the beginning of the long goodbye’.
