Shaun Ryder has rush released a brand new single which signals his first batch of fresh material in a decade.

Close The Dam‘ is now up on Soundcloud after a white label version backed with ‘Electric Scales‘ reportedly sold-out during the weekend after going on sale at select independent record shops. It can be downloaded too over on iTunes.

“Shaun sounds more focused than, than ever, really,” David Laurie of Something In Construction Records says of the track. “‘Close The Dam’ is something new from him, a little bit future. A spare but insistent club track with the sort of lyrics that burn themselves into your mind. Instant classic. Big.”

“‘Electric Scales’ rewinds the clock a little. If you half close your eyes, its dirty squalls almost drift towards Squirrel & G-Man’s choppy waters. Almost.”

“Until you realise just what is going down in the layered and loping production. It plays harder than ‘Close The Dam’ but wears its heart on its sleeve and, if you roll with the punches, you can feel it beating.”

While he concentrates on new music, Ryder is concurrently celebrating past achievements too and will embark on anniversary tours of the UK with both the Happy Mondays and Black Grape later this year.
