Director Julien Temple, who has previously helmed musical films such as The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle, Glastonbury and Absolute Beginners, has confirmed he is working on a new Kinks biopic.

“The lyrics of The Kinks have always been fascinating to me and there is an amazing human story here as well which has yet to be captured on film,” Temple told ScreenDaily.

It’ll be actor Johnny Flynn who takes on the role of Ray Davies, while George Mackay has signed up to play Dave Davies.

“It’s not easy to find British leading men who can deliver the kind of musically compelling performances we need and we have those in Johnny and George.”

The Davies brothers played out a famously volatile relationship from the time of their classic breakthrough hit ‘You Really Got Me‘ to their eventual split in 1996. Rumours of a reunion have yet to flourish despite a reported reconciliation last year.
