T In The Park’s ‘future in doubt if Strathallan Castle move is rejected’

T In The Park’s long-term future is hanging on Perthshire’s local council approving its move to Strathallan Castle, according to organiser Geoff Ellis.

Last week nesting Opsreys – a protected species in the UK – were reported to have put the festival’s relocation in doubt as disturbing the animals can result in six months in prison or a £5,000 fine.

T In The Park has already had to relocate once this year thanks to an oil pipeline at its long-term Balado home, and Ellis has said if they do not get approval to settle at Strathallan Castle, it could signal the end of one of Britain’s most popular summer events.

“I don’t think there is a venue, without going very far north in Scotland, which would be viable for T in the Park, so yes, I don’t think it would carry on if we didn’t host it at Strathallan this year,” he’s told BBC Scotland.

More opposition is coming from Scotland’s Woodland Trust, who are fearful of ancient woodland being lost if approval is given.

Fans will be treated to a trio of British rock heavyweights if all does go well, with The Libertines, Kasabian and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds all set to headline this coming July.
