Johnny Marr has spoken about writing his memoirs, insisting he is relying on nothing more than a ‘really good memory’ ahead of a planned release in 2016.
Marr told BBC 6Music’s Matt Everitt that he’s ‘done a few chapters, probably a third of it’, and added: “I’ve enjoyed it. It’s a lot of work – you’ve got to mind out you don’t freeze and lose your own voice. I wanted it to be my own voice. So I’m writing it, I’m not using a ghostwriter or a journalist or anything like that. I’m just relying on a really good memory.”
Marr will release his autobiography through Century after what was described as a ‘hotly-contested auction’, giving his take on a career which began in The Smiths and has just taken in his second solo album. It follows his former bandmate Morrissey‘s own memoirs, simply entitled Autobiography, and released in 2013.
