Organisers of Scotland’s RockNess festival have revealed the event will not return this year.

The festival was cancelled last year to make way for the World Cup, as well as the Commonwealth Games which were being held in Glasgow, but organisers did suggest then it would be back for 2015.

“We’d like to thank you for your support over the last 8 years,” they said at the time. “Due to the addition of a number of events alongside the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games we’ve decided to take a year off. We’re using this break to make the event bigger and better than ever in 2015 so have an amazing summer and see you back at the Loch next year.”

However, organisers are reported to have been struggling to make RockNess ‘financially viable’ for a return, and have not said whether it will be back for 2016. The last time it did take place, in June 2013, Basement Jaxx, Example and Plan B headlined.

The news comes soon after Sonisphere said it wouldn’t be a part of this year’s festival season, despite making a comeback in 2014 to celebrate 40 years of rock concerts at Knebworth Park.
