Royal Blood discuss ‘insane’ Foo Fighters stadium support

Royal Blood have admitted they find it ‘insane’ that the opportunity to support Foo Fighters in stadiums has presented itself so early on in their career.

The rise of Ben Thatcher and Mike Kerr and their stodgy rock sound, built from nothing much more than a bass guitar, drum kit and fair smattering of effects pedals, has been the success story of this year, and 2015 is already looking like being another memorable one.

The duo will be backing Dave Grohl and pals throughout May and June, visiting Sunderland’s Stadium Of Light, Manchester’s Old Trafford cricket ground, Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield, and are already itching to get started.

“If you asked us individually before Royal Blood even started with band we’d most like to tour with the Foo Fighters would be the ones,” Thatcher told NME. “So to get the opportunity on this album run is insane.”

Royal Blood started this year on the industry’s annual hype lists, and ended it on the Mercury Prize shortlist. In between, their debut became the UK’s fastest selling rock album since 2011 and Noel Gallagher‘s first solo effort.
