Live4ever’s Essential Listening 2014: Trampolene talk ‘I Don’t Know’

Trampolene, who were placed at #1 on our Essential Tracks list yesterday with ‘I Don’t Know‘, have been talking Live4ever through the origins of the track and their plans for 2015.

Despite being one of the earliest singles to fall in our lap this year, ‘I Don’t Know’ has remained just as irresistible as it did on first listen, and was described as being ‘full of innocent abandon’ in our subsequent Live4ever Presents feature. All qualities which proved more than enough to place it at the top of our end of year recommendations.

“The riff was something I had been playing around with for ages, without knowing what to do with it,” frontman Jack Jones told us of the track. “Then, when we moved to London in the first year, we were practicing in the living room when these policemen knocked on the door and asked us to stay indoors because there was a riot going on in a nearby street – we were living in Hornsey by Wood Green. So that night, while there was all these people rioting on our street, I sat down and wrote a song about it, which ended up being ‘I Don’t Know’.”

More impressive singles have been released during a year which has been underpinned by relentless gigging for the band. “It’s been alright, gigging all over place,” Jones said of their 2014. “Going over to France twice was classic. Spent more time in the studio than we ever have before. Looking forward to 2015 and going to the topper-most of the poper-most!”

For next year, Jones tells us Trampolene are planning ‘at least two more Pocket LPs’, as well as ‘lots of videos and lots of gigs’. Before then he’ll be watching The Great Escape on TV and supporting Carl Barat and The Jackals on New Year’s Eve in London.
