Brandon Flowers laments The Killers’ ‘lack of drive’

In 2012, The Killers returned from a long break with ‘Battle Born‘ to a fair degree of fanfare. Indeed, it was a return successful enough to deliver the band a headline gig at Wembley Stadium the following summer.

However, after touring behind the record was completed, one half of the band at least was ready for another lengthy period of downtime, pushing frontman Brandon Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci back onto their respective solo projects.

If that can be defined as a lack of drive, it’s certainly something Flowers is all too aware of. “There’s definitely a drive that we’re lacking,” he said when in interview with NME.

“It takes a lot of work and that’s fine, everybody’s different, everybody’s gonna have their own road that they go down. Other than Coldplay I’m not sure anybody’s made the dent that U2 were able to make. They were so much a part of the landscape and the timing of when they were coming out.”

Flowers is working with producer Ariel Rechtshaid on a follow-up to solo debut ‘Flamingo‘ which should be ready early next year.
