Brandon Flowers aiming for ‘change’ on second solo album

Brandon Flowers is conscious of the need for change as he works on a second solo album with producer Ariel Rechtshaid.

With the well received solo debut ‘Flamingo‘ already under his belt, and a hugely successful return for The Killers still fresh in the memory, it would probably be easy for Flowers to bask in the safety of the status quo now he’s back in the studio, but that’s something he’s intentionally hoping to avoid on his next LP.

“It’s nice to steer the ship and that’s what you’d think I’d do on my own album, but I’m letting Ariel take over every now and then,” he’s told NME.

“That’s led to some really exciting things and sounds I would never have used. As I’ve gotten older I’m much more open to that – I’m much more open to peoples’ strengths and really trying to utilise them – and that’s where Ariel comes into the picture. He’s really knowledgeable about every genre; it’s pretty incredible what he’s able to reference and pull out. It’s definitely going to be different, but I’m still in the thick of it, hammering away.”

With at least one half of The Killers intent on another lengthy break, Flowers is alone again – as is drummer Ronnie Vannucci, who’s expected to revisit Big Talk in 2015.
