Tame Impala’s new album will be ‘less rock’ than ‘Lonerism’

Jay Watson has handed a rare update on Tame Impala‘s post-‘Lonerism‘ plans to Faster Louder, and has revealed Kevin Parker has his talented eye on a less rockier sound for the band’s third album.

“It’s probably gonna be less rock again and more electronic again, even more than the last one,” the keyboard player said. “It’s gonna be awesome, everything he does is awesome. I guess probably cause he knows someone like me’ll get drunk and then say stuff about it in interviews! Which is a very real possibility. It’s probably best I don’t say anything because I’ll get in more trouble than you will.”

‘Lonerism’, released in October 2012, still feels like one of the very best albums of recent times, and was named as one of Live4ever’s essentials of that year.

“As has been done here, the album will inevitably be held up and scrutinised next to previous Tame Impala releases, but there is a different point to ‘Lonerism’ – a cohesion through experimentation that makes the album succeed as a whole, as greater than the sum of its parts,” our review ended. “It is, quite simply, a fantastic album.”
