Ride confirm reunion for 2015 headline, festival gigs

Ride have confirmed they will reunite for a tour next year after a not-so-subtle hint was grandly displayed by the Primavera Sound festival yesterday (November 18th).

It appears the final piece of the reformation fell into place not long after guitarist Andy Bell‘s previous band Beady Eye confirmed their split via a tweet from Liam Gallagher last month; ‘the time is right’, Bell has told NME.

“It’s going to be really cool,” he said. “As we were all still friends, we always thought when the time was right we’d do it. And now the time is right.”

As well as the headline dates, Ride have also confirmed the Primavera appearance, and will play another festival at Field Day in London on June 7th 2015.

Musical differences had meant the band, which led the shoegaze movement of the early nineties, were already going their separate ways by the time their disappointing final studio album ‘Tarantula‘ was released in 1996.

Bell has enjoyed the most high profile career since then; prior to Beady Eye he was the bass player with Oasis for the best part of a decade and also enjoyed a modicum of chart success with Hurricane #1 in 1997.

“People bought our records first time round,” frontman Mark Gardener told NME. “But our music has grown in significance since we’ve been away. We want to give the people what they want. We’d be idiots to go out and play a new album, but that’s not to say we wouldn’t make new music.”
