Patti Smith is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her much-decorated 1975 album ‘Horses‘ with special gigs in London, Paris and New York.

“The exact date is November 10, and I want to celebrate it in New York in a special way,” she has told Rolling Stone. “We have things we’ll be doing in Paris and London, everywhere, because it’s a true milestone. I’m proud to have a milestone like that.”

“So I’m going to be happy to celebrate it, to perform the album with happiness, not with any kind of cynicism or a cashing-in thing. It will be a true, proud celebration, so the answer is yes.”

‘Horses’ is in sound and recording ethos considered a trailblazing precursor to the punk explosion which would truly arrive around a year on from its release, led by the Ramones in New York and the Sex Pistols in London. Indeed, it was those CBGB bands such as the Ramones and Blondie which had in turn first inspired Smith’s debut album.
