Live4ever Presents: GANGS

Who?

Johnny: “I play the drums, Jordan is our bass player and lead vocalist. Dan and James on guitars.”

Where?

Jordan: “We’re all from Tallaght, south Dublin.”

How?

James: “I’ve known Johnny all my life, Johnny went to school with Jordan, and Dan is a friend of a friend. We were all into the same stuff – same music, clothes – so it made sense.”

Dan: “We all wanted this for a long time. Two years ago we got together and decided to give it a proper go.”

Why?

Jordan: “We grew up on The Stone Roses and Beatles, but nothing current was gripping us. Our sound is like nothing out there though and it’s catching on, people in Ireland have been really supportive so far.”

Past?

Jordan: “I worked in Dunnes for a while, so did Johnny. James and Dan are in college.”

Present?

James: “It’s lively and energetic. We’re seen as a live band and that’s something we’re very proud of.”

Jordan: “Yeah we put a lot into our live shows, we respect that people are parting with hard earned cash so why wouldn’t we? Getting that live sound on to the EP was one of our main objectives and we think we nailed it; ‘Daisy’ we got down in one take.”

Future?

Jordan: “We’re taking our time, writing and gigging, we’ve achieved a lot this past year so we’re happy. We know it’s gonna happen so we’re just relaxed and doing what we’ve been doing all along: writing music and putting on good shows.”

James: “We want to play a few more festivals next year, we’re working on our next release already and we are very excited about it.”

Did you know?

Dan: “A cabbie tried to overcharge us in Camden and we were having none of it. We agreed a price and when we got out he tried to knock us down. Close call!”

What’s next?

Gigs, gigs, gigs!

Live4ever:

Punchy and aggressive, but with a soft and fluffy underbelly, the ‘Back To School’ EP offers an exciting set of songs for lovers of classic British indie. Opener ‘Daisy’ may have plenty of bite, while ‘Young Employment’ licks you all over lasciviously, but it’s the incongruous approach to music that makes the GANGS sound so interesting, what with feisty love songs and lush political diatribes, it manages to constantly surprise.

With the garage rock staccato of bands like The Lyres and the lyrical verve of The Clash, there is much fun to be had from these four powerful tracks. A truly swift and effective attack.
