Lars Ulrich ‘inspired’ by U2’s free iTunes album giveaway

A fan of U2‘s free iTunes release of the new album ‘Songs Of Innocence‘ has been found. It’s Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich.

Although the hook-up between music’s biggest retailer and one of its biggest bands appeared to do nothing much more than spark millions of deletes and a dedicated removal tool from Apple, Ulrich has said the plan inspired him ‘immensely’, and should be ‘applauded’.

“It’s 2014 and anybody who thinks outside the box, or attempts in any way, shape or form, to break the status quo in the world of music, should be applauded,” the drummer told Billboard. “To me, it’s not about whether the endeavour is a success or not. It’s the fact that they have the balls and the foresight to throw something this radical at us.”

U2 are releasing a more conventional physical version of their thirteenth studio album later this month.
